Located within Torrance’s challenging Hillside Overlay zone, the project began with a modest 700-square-foot home. Seeing its potential, Maryia worked with Douglas Design and Build and partnered with Inchoate Architecture to design a new two-story residence.

Over 16 months, we navigated strict zoning and design constraints, securing all required permits while maximizing the allowable building envelope.

Designed as a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom plus Office, the first floor features an open Kitchen, Dining, Living plan with multi-fold doors out to the rear yard, a guest bedroom, and an office/extra bedroom. The stairway is set against a glass wall which allows it to float in the space, connecting both volumes and floor levels. At the second story there are two bedrooms, a bathroom, a laundry room, and a primary suite with a private balcony.
